LIVE: Scheib in the lead, Brunner makes mistakes

Another top result for Julia Scheib! Only Camille Rast prevented the ÖSV lady from triumphing in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora on Saturday. It was the first victory in a giant slalom for the Swiss racer. The US American Paula Moltzan finished in third place.

Julia Scheib remains on the road to success in 2026! The Styrian took second place in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora on Saturday in the sixth race of the season and finished on the podium for the fifth time. As the discipline leader, the ÖSV skier added another 80 points to her points account, which could still prove valuable in the final standings. New Zealand's co-favorite Alice Robinson was once again eliminated in the first giant slalom victory by Switzerland's Camille Rast.

In fifth place at half-time, Scheib caught Mikaela Shiffrin (5th), Lara Colturi (6th) and Paula Moltzan (3rd) in turn. However, the leader Rast maintained half of her four tenths over Scheib in the exciting final and is now the Austrian's first pursuer in the bullet race. Scheib's lead is 119 points with four giant slaloms still to go this season. She has 168 points on Robinson, who left the race in the first run with a considerable deficit on her coach's course.

No thought of the globe
The prospect is very cool, but she is not thinking about the World Cup globe, said Scheib. "I have to deliver my performance race after race." Rast explained: "It was a great battle with Julia in Semmering and here again." The slalom world champion and her teammates were wearing mourning flags in light of the fire disaster in Crans Montana. Scheib missed out on her fourth win of the season in the first run, she said. But that's part of racing. "A podium is very, very cool. I'm proud that it worked out again - a great day," said the 28-year-old. The super-G in Zauchensee should now provide a change of pace. "I'll definitely be at the start there, I'm really looking forward to it. Zauchensee is very technical with some cool turns," explained Scheib.

She is currently the sole entertainer in the ÖSV team in the giant slalom. The second best Austrian was Stephanie Brunner, who only finished in 21st place. "The results aren't there, all the confidence isn't there." She was followed by a returnee in the absence of the injured Katharina Liensberger. Ricarda Haaser dropped 10 places to 24th in only her second race after tearing her cruciate ligament. "The first run wasn't too bad, the second was a bit off."

Franziska Gritsch (35th) and Nina Astner (40th), whose twelfth place from Semmering was just an outlier for the time being, missed out on qualifying for the final round, as did the young guard collectively.
