The father of a primary school pupil in Marchtrenk is outraged by the enormous amount of work his fourth-grader was given. The Upper Austrian Education Directorate puts things into perspective and explains what the 14 pages of "homework" and a "test" on the second day of school are all about.

"A test on the second day of school in the morning, plus 14 pages of homework and a list of questions to be studied at home because there will be a test in three weeks. Is this normal in the fourth year of elementary school or is there a need for action here?" the father of a Marchtrenk primary school pupil posted angrily on Facebook.
