Climber fell into the depths and rolled over the slope

A nasty climbing accident occurred on Thursday morning in Mieming (Imst district)! A Frenchman (52) fell around ten meters into the depths on the "Drachentanz" route and rolled down a slope. He was seriously injured.

The 52-year-old had set off on a climbing tour to the Vorderer Tajakopf in Mieming together with his compatriot at around 5.30 am. They chose the "Drachentanz" route. At around 9 a.m., the two climbed via the easy entry variant, which leads upwards in an overturning fashion. The 52-year-old finally climbed ahead.

He then held on to the rock when his grip suddenly broke free.

The Frenchman had already clipped five quickdraws on this section and wanted to climb the last one. "He then held on to the rock when his grip suddenly broke free," said the police. He lost his balance and fell around ten meters. He then rolled down a slope.

Flown to hospital seriously injured
His 32-year-old companion was able to hold the fall and helped his compatriot to climb up by pulling the rope. The 52-year-old suffered serious injuries and was flown to the hospital in Garmisch-Partenkirchen by emergency helicopter. The 32-year-old remained uninjured.
