"What's swimming there?"
This is what it looks like on Croatian beaches at the moment
"Dad, what's swimming there?" a little German boy asks his father at the end of the jetty. "I don't know, just jump over it ..." Conversations like this are not uncommon in the vacation regions of the Adriatic at the moment. The infamous algae slime, also known as "sea snot", continues to cover large parts of the Mediterranean.
The "Krone" was able to see the situation for itself in Rovinj on the west coast of Croatia - where it all began. At the beginning of June, the alarming extent of the "algae bloom" on bathing beaches was reported there for the first time this year.
What is the situation now, a good month later? Should you go on vacation in Croatia at the moment? Is it still possible to swim there? Or is everything covered in the horrible algae slime - just like in Italy recently? The "Krone" has a crystal-clear answer to this question.
