Spain are in turmoil ahead of the European Championship semi-final against France: after star striker Alvaro Morata threatened his own fans with resignation, his wife Alice Campello is now also getting involved.

The captain of the "Furia Roja", Alvaro Morata, had railed against the Spanish fans before the European Championship match and even threatened to resign from the national team. The background to this is the recurring hostility towards him. The Atletico Madrid goal scorer already had to endure whistles from Spanish fans at the 2020 European Championships.

Now Morata's wife Alice Campello is also getting involved. She accuses the Spanish media outlet "El Confidencial" of stirring up hatred against her husband. "It baffles me that you are preoccupied with sinking a player in your national team instead of supporting him. How do you think a person is supposed to give the maximum for their country if they are not believed in? What do you want to achieve? Create more hate? Congratulations!"

Journalist voices harsh criticism
Journalist Ulises Sánchez-Flor from "El Confidencial" had previously harshly criticized Morata. "Alvaro Morata has done enough to be perceived as a crybaby. He's been complaining throughout the European Championship that he's not respected in Spain and is more appreciated abroad. He doesn't perform on the pitch and ruins everything with his comments," he wrote. Morata is "a captain who shames Spain".
