Kapfenberg: Worker seriously injured in explosion

A serious industrial accident occurred on Thursday at the Böhler plant (pictured above) in Kapfenberg, Styria: Following a deflagration in the new electric arc furnace, there was a flash fire in which a 33-year-old worker was seriously injured.

Shortly after 10.30 a.m., the Croatian (33), who lives in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag, was working in an electric steelworks in the area of an electric arc furnace. An explosion occurred - the forklift driver was enveloped by the flames.

Man's life is in danger
The 33-year-old suffered severe burns to several parts of his body. After receiving emergency medical treatment, the man was flown by the C17 rescue helicopter to Graz Regional Hospital, where he is currently undergoing emergency surgery. His life is in danger.

No details are yet known about the course of the accident. The man's work colleagues were looked after at the scene of the accident by a Red Cross crisis intervention team, according to the police.
