In EU election
Small party Volt hopes for help from Taylor Swift
It didn't work at the first attempt. But in this year's EU parliamentary elections, the small party Volt also wants to end up on the ballot paper. In order to get the necessary signatures, they are even enlisting the help of US pop star Taylor Swift.
All official supporters will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to Swift's concert on August 10, 2024 at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna. "We know that this campaign is rather unconventional. But on the one hand, we are getting the younger generation to engage with European politics and the election, and on the other, we are showing that as a progressive party, we are breaking new ground in order to achieve a big impact even with a small budget," says Nini Tsiklauri, Volt's lead candidate.
All envelopes marked with the word "Taylor" on the outside will be entered into the prize draw, as the pan-European party announced on Tuesday. The declared goal of the transnational party, should the necessary 2,600 signatures arrive by April 26, is to gain 23 seats in the EU Parliament.
Party founded in 2017
The trans-European Volt party was founded in 2017 by Andrea Venzon from Italy, Colombe Cahen-Salvador from France and Damian Boeselager from Germany. In the 2019 EU elections, the party only managed to enter the European Parliament in Germany with Boeselager. There he joined the Green Group.
