Wolff’s suffering and a test for Kimi
"In these months, I don't just want to suffer," said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff after four of 24 races and when asked about the 2026 regulations revolution. A column by "Krone" editor Richard Köck.
The days when Toto Wolff was seen laughing in and around the Mercedes garage are long gone. And this year too, it is safe to assume that Max Verstappen, Sergio Pérez and the entire Red Bull Racing team are racing in a parallel world, with only one question for the other nine teams: Who will be the best of the rest?
"I don't just want to suffer during these months"
However, there are still 44 races to go before Formula 1 makes a fresh start in 2026 with a veritable revolution in the regulations. "I don't just want to suffer during these months," said Wolff, who was not entirely dissatisfied despite the poor result at Suzuka (Russell 7th, Hamilton 9th). "We made some progress and that was positive," said Wolff, but added unequivocally: "If we want to move up the field, we have to find more performance and keep working hard."
It remains to be seen who will take over from Lewis Hamilton at the Silver Arrows next season. What is certain, however, is that Wolff will soon have 17-year-old Kimi Antonelli test a Formula 1 car in Spielberg.
