Three generations are passionate about the fire department
Their passion is to help others. Three generations talk about life as a firefighter and what has changed over the years.
50 years ago, everything was different," says long-time firefighter Johann Daborer, tapping his old helmet. "You could only use it as a flower pot now," smiles the 68-year-old, who also remembers the first missions well. "Back then, we were mainly confronted with storms, fires and arson. Entire farms were set on fire."
Times have changed
Compared to today, there were hardly any technical operations such as car accidents for the Radenthein fire brigade. "We also lacked the equipment for this, such as the rescue shears," continues the passionate firefighter, referring to today's operational technology. "In the past, we still had to search for the location, we only got rough information. Today, we know exactly what has happened and where something has happened via the tablet," says the retiree enthusiastically.
Represented from young to old
The Radentheiner also shares his passion for the fire department with his son Hannes Daborer. He is also a firefighter. "I grew up with the fire department. Camaraderie, friendships and being there for each other when other people need help - all of that is simply unique," beams the 42-year-old commander of the Radenthein fire brigade and looks proudly at his daughter. Because little Marisa is already there too. "We are a great team. I'm looking forward to when I can go out and help too," says the ten-year-old, who is learning the ropes in the youth fire department and is looking forward to meeting more young comrades. "We're always looking for new recruits, just come along," adds her dad.
Assessing the importance of the mission
What the Daborers want to draw attention to on behalf of all fire departments: "We are often called out for every little thing. Whether it's a small branch blocking the road or a blockage that you could actually clear yourself - so we ask the public to go through life with their eyes open and only report genuine potential dangers."
