Good response in Landeck for the “summer trial”

Last summer, Landeck's city leadership "tried out" a pedestrian zone in Malserstrasse for the first time. A market research institute was commissioned to determine its acceptance. The signs are pointing to a repeat.

For the first time, Malserstraße in Landeck was transformed into a pedestrian zone for six weeks last summer. The unanimity that prevailed in Telfs and Imst with regard to banning traffic from the town center did not exist, especially in the run-up to the event. The tradespeople were divided. This is precisely why they wanted to analyze the "pilot test" in detail.

A market research institute was commissioned by the city via the regional management RegioL to carry out an evaluation, the results of which were presented at the most recent municipal council meeting.

Three out of ten entrepreneurs do not want a repeat
A representative number of visitors, residents and businesses were surveyed. Overall, the summer pedestrian zone is perceived positively by visitors. Young residents in particular rate it well. The accessibility of Malserstrasse has also improved. Every second business owner states that the introduction of the pedestrian zone was "very positive" for their company. However, three out of ten business owners perceive the experiment as negative.

Positive assessment from 92 percent of visitors
92 percent of visitors gave a positive assessment overall, with half of residents even wanting a permanent pedestrian zone. Only 31 percent of the businesses think so, a further third would like to stick with the summer pedestrian zone and the third third would not like to see a repeat.

The analysis was viewed positively by the city leadership. Landeck's deputy Thomas Hittler: "There will probably be a repeat in the summer, but we still have to discuss the details."
