From Saturday, the 47th "Art & Antique" will be showcasing paintings, antiques and furniture in the magnificent halls of the Residenz. An iron cash box from 1735 is a particular eye-catcher.

A baroque iron coffer is certainly one of the eye-catchers in the already impressive rooms of the Residenz in the Domquartier: it weighs 150 kilos, is made of steel, bronze and iron, has an ingenious double locking system with two keys and unusual decorations. If you can spare 58,000 euros, you can purchase this piece of jewelry for storing gold coins made by art dealer Markus Strassner in 1735. Despite the proud price, Strassner says: "I have a good feeling that it will go." The lacquer cabinet from the collection of Brigitte Martini from Salzburg from 1690 is just as expensive. It comes from Kleßheim, but Martini found it in England via a roundabout route and brought it back.

The mix of modern and antique makes the difference
As usual, this year's "Art & Antique" will not only feature works of art for which you have to dig deep into your wallet. The galleries and art dealers also offer more affordable, but no less attractive objects. Like Florian Kolhammer, who sells the unusual works of the young Viennese artist Nikolaus Fröhlich (35). They are available for as little as 700 euros. Salzburgers can also find themselves in Fröhlich's works, as he uses black and white photos of Mirabell Palace or the Getreidegasse, backs them with gold leaf and adds wild animals: one picture shows a giraffe in Mirabell Gardens!

If you have the necessary change and the right van, you can take your new possessions with you straight away. "Like its sister fair in Vienna, 'Art & Antique' is still a showcase for the Austrian art and antiques trade," says organizer Alexandra Graski-Hoffmann.

The 47th "Art & Antique" opens its doors on Saturday at ten o'clock. Every day until Easter Monday, April 1, art lovers can make direct contact with art dealers and galleries and make purchases on the spot.
