Dad fuels rumors
“Maybe tomorrow she’ll say she’s retiring”
Lara Gut-Behrami's father, Pauli Gut, is causing a stir with statements about his daughter's future: "Who knows: maybe she'll say tomorrow that she's retiring."
Gut-Behrami has ascended the ski throne for the second time in her career. She not only won the big crystal globe for the overall World Cup, but also the small one for the giant slalom. In the last RTL in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Sunday, tenth place was enough for her in the end. "What Lara has shown is fantastic. I'm so proud of her. Because the starting position wasn't easy. She had to get to the finish somehow, but she couldn't risk too much. It's unbelievable how she managed it," Pauli Gut analyzed in an interview with Blick.
His daughter will probably also win the two small globes in downhill and super-G this weekend - an incredible triumph! Will she ski better than ever? Pauli Gut: "In terms of the results, sure. But the key thing is that Lara always wants to improve - not just on skis, but in life too."
"Maybe she won't do it for another week"
Gut-Behrami has already announced that she will continue for another season. Next year, the World Ski Championships will take place, where she has a good chance of winning a medal. But according to her father, the 32-year-old is obviously always good for a surprise: "She hasn't reached her full potential yet and wants more. But who knows: maybe she'll say tomorrow that she's retiring." A realistic scenario? "You never know. Maybe she won't do it for another week," smiles Papa Gut.
So fans can assume that Gut-Behrami will continue to chase success after success (next year at least).
