At Wiener Austria

WSG Tirol is on the hunt for an asterisk

WSG Tirol will tip the scales at Vienna Austria on Sunday in the battle for the top six in the Austrian Bundesliga. However, the Watten team are chasing a "bonus" themselves.

All that was needed was for flowers to sprout on the pitch. The Gernot Lange Stadium basked in the spring sunshine on Friday morning. The mood was accordingly. "A win like this feels good," said Thomas Silberberger a few minutes later inside the WSG Tirol press room. And he was referring to the 1:0 win over Hartberg last Sunday.

Now it's all about staying in the league
The fact that his (surprising) announcement of his retirement at the end of the season could (also) have contributed to the relaxed atmosphere on the pitch did not occur to the outgoing coach: "Because my retirement doesn't change anything. Neither for the players who are leaving, nor for those who are staying," shrugs Silberberger. Now it's all about staying in the Bundesliga - only then will the cards be reshuffled in Wattens. And who will be in charge in the future is still written in the stars.

There were far fewer than I feared.

Sportdirektor Stefan Köck

Sports director Stefan Köck has already received the first names of coaches: "But there were far fewer than I feared." Perhaps the market is also aware that the first priority is to stay in the league.

The matter of sharing points
Watten currently have 14 points in their account. That would be seven after the points split on Sunday evening. As would a draw at Austria Vienna in the last match of the basic round. Because an odd number of points is rounded down when halving, the club loses a point but gains an "asterisk". In other words, if the points are equal, the club is in front.

And the Tyroleans want to chase this asterisk at the Violets on Sunday. A win in Vienna would be a super bonus: one point more after halving - and an asterisk!!!

The Viennese are fighting for a place in the championship group and absolutely need a three-pointer. The Generali-Arena is sold out.
