Travelers in Salzburg will need more patience again on Thursday and Friday: German train drivers are on strike, as are German ground staff. In Salzburg, flights to Frankfurt and trains to Munich are particularly affected.

At the same time, German neighbors have been on strike at airports and in rail traffic since today, Thursday. There will be strikes on the railways until midday on Friday. This will also affect connections from Salzburg to Munich: These locomotives are usually driven by a Deutsche Bahn employee.

Since two o'clock in the night, only 20 percent of long-distance trains have been running. The trains will remain on strike until 1 p.m. on Friday. ÖBB recommends postponing trips to Germany that are not urgent.

ÖBB long-distance trains via the Deutsches Eck between Salzburg and Kufstein are expected to run as scheduled. This also applies to Westbahn trains to and from Munich and Rosenheim as well as via Deutsches Eck to Tyrol and Vorarlberg. Travelers should inform themselves in the app or on the ÖBB website.

The situation is no better at Salzburg Airport with connections to Germany: On Thursday, four Lufthansa flights from Vienna to Munich are to be affected by the strike. 13 flights will be canceled: seven landings and six take-offs. Originally, only the security staff at Hamburg and Frankfurt airports wanted to strike, but the strike was quickly extended to Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf.
