Boeing aircraft loses emergency slide during flight
Once again, a Boeing aircraft has lost a part during a flight. Shortly after take-off, an emergency slide on a Delta Airlines plane in New York came loose - so far there is no trace of the crashed part.
The US aircraft manufacturer's series of mishaps continues unabated. The emergency slide on an older Boeing 767-300 came loose on Friday, shortly after the plane had taken off from John F. Kennedy Airport in New York with destination Los Angeles. The pilots then turned back. There were 183 people on board, fortunately no one was injured in the incident.
In this article you can see the affected aircraft - there is a gaping hole in the fuselage where the emergency slide was located:
Pilots perceived vibration, warning and strange noise
The crew stated that they had felt a vibration before the incident. The pilots also received a warning via the emergency chute on the right-hand side of the aircraft after take-off and heard an unusual noise. They then declared an emergency in order to be able to land in New York again quickly. The plane was able to taxi to a gate under its own power, the airline announced.
Search underway for lost emergency slide
The plane was eventually taken out of service and will be thoroughly examined. The aircraft was delivered to Delta Airlines in 1990. Delta Airline also stated that it was working with investigators and that the search for the lost slide would continue. The Federal Aviation Administration would investigate the case.
Incidents also on brand-new Boeing aircraft
The aircraft manufacturer Boeing is in crisis following numerous safety incidents. At the beginning of January, a part of the fuselage of a brand-new 737 MAX 9 aircraft came loose - this incident also went smoothly, no one was injured and the Alaska Airlines plane was able to land again without any problems. A Boeing 777 lost a tire in March - it damaged several cars when it crashed to the ground. A few weeks ago, a Boeing 737-800 had to turn back after the cowling of an engine came loose. This incident also happened shortly after the plane had taken off.
