Trial in Innsbruck
Tyrolean threw stones at cars: narrowly avoided imprisonment!
A 65-year-old Tyrolean is said to have repeatedly thrown stones at parked or moving cars over a period of months, causing damage of well over 5,000 euros. Now it came to trial.
According to the indictment, a cyclist and a pedestrian were also thrown at - the man should have stood trial at the Innsbruck Regional Court on Tuesday, but he stayed away from the hearing. Judge Andreas Fleckl finally decided to hear the case in his absence. Numerous witnesses and injured parties were already waiting outside the door.
However, none of the ten or so witnesses were able to say exactly what had happened. The only thing that seemed certain was that stones had been thrown at their parked or moving cars in Telfs. And the period of the crime was also set in stone: The incidents occurred between December 6, 2023 and March 3, 2024.
Verdict not yet final
Nevertheless, the evidence was enough for Judge Fleckl. He sentenced the 65-year-old in absentia to six months' conditional imprisonment for criminal damage to property. However, he was acquitted of the charge of attempted grievous bodily harm. "I could not recognize any intent in the inner side of the crime," he said, explaining the acquittal on this charge.
