Successful talks
Noise protection comes, Austria Stadium stays
The end of the stadium confusion? On Thursday, talks were held again regarding the Salzburg Austria sports facility in the Maxglan district. A final solution is on the horizon in the almost eternal tussle between city politicians, the club and developers. . .
As a reminder: the continued existence of the soccer club's stadium has been in doubt in recent months. The property developers, who want to build hundreds of apartments next to the sports facility, were opposed. They demanded strict protective measures. It now seems clear that the stadium can remain in its current form.
On Thursday morning, there were renewed talks between city politicians, developers and representatives of Austria. Mayor Harald Preuner (ÖVP) commented: "We are on the right track. We have agreed that the city will draw up a civil law agreement for a noise barrier." The noise barrier is to run the entire length of the back straight and be seven meters high instead of the originally planned nine meters. The developers are planning to build a parking garage next to the apartments, which will serve as additional noise protection. The costs for the noise barrier will be borne by the city. And: "As soon as the agreement is approved, the developers will withdraw their objections."
Demolition of the fan stand no longer an issue
According to Preuner, the future of the stadium is thus secured and the demolition of the fan stand is off the table. "The developers are also interested in keeping the sports ground," says the outgoing head of the city.
