Ex-LASK professional embarrasses himself from the penalty spot
This idea went badly wrong. Osasuna's Ante Budimir's attempt to beat Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from the penalty spot made the headlines - but not in a good way.
With the score at 1-0 on Monday, the home side had the chance to avoid defeat with a penalty in stoppage time. Budimir took responsibility, put the ball on the spot, ran up and ... embarrassed himself.
Into the hands of the keeper
The idea of faking the shot and then casually lobbing the ball into the goal may not have been a bad one, but the execution was. Almost stumbling, the striker, who had signed for LASK in 2008, tipped the ball into Mamardaschwili's hands, who had no trouble making the save - the ball had bounced off the ground at a leisurely pace.
The chance was wasted, Osasuna were beaten 1-0 and Budimir will probably have to put up with a comment or two.
