A tricky task awaits the new mayor

The new SPÖ mayor of Strobl will become a full-time mayor. High on his agenda is the prevention of an excavation landfill site. Affected residents are up in arms against this.

With 54.1 percent, SPÖ candidate Harry Humer prevailed in Strobl against ÖVP challenger Christof Hillebrand. He is sworn in as mayor on April 10. One of the most controversial projects during the election campaign was the landfill site planned by an entrepreneur in the district of Aigen.

"We don't want that. We will see what we can do now," says management consultant and mental trainer Humer. The procedure with the state has not yet been dealt with. "We are currently organizing legal counsel to support us," says Humer.

An expert is also looking at what the municipality can do to make the narrow old main road safer for pedestrians and children. The access road to the planned landfill site is currently planned there. "There are 80 houses there. The landfill is a crazy idea," says the citizens' initiative. The new mayor wants to expand the municipality's information policy - as a full-time mayor.
