City leader run-off election
Kreibich voters almost all went over to Auinger
Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ) also owes his victory in the run-off election for mayor to the votes of the people of Salzburg who voted for Florian Kreibich of the ÖVP two weeks earlier. This is shown by the analysis of statistics professor Erich Neuwirth. Auinger also received votes from other parties.
In the run-off election, the new red mayor of the city of Salzburg, Bernhard Auinger, prevailed against Kay-Michael Dankl of the KPÖ Plus with 62.5 percent of the vote. Auinger was able to convince ÖVP voters in particular to vote for him in last Sunday's election.
An analysis by emeritus Vienna statistics professor Erich Neuwirth shows that around 8,500 voters who voted for Auinger in the second round of voting had opted for ÖVP man Kreibich in the first round.
Auinger also received the majority of votes from FPÖ candidate Paul Dürnberger and SALZ founder Christoph Ferch. Voters for Green candidate Anna Schiester went almost equally to the two candidates in the run-off.
