Tourism on the upswing
Spring brings a lot of enjoyment to southern Burgenland
The "Aufblühen" project is set to bring more overnight stays and added value to southern Burgenland. This year, the season starts with twice as many businesses as last year.
Wine, Uhudler, culture and cuisine - it is the diversity that makes southern Burgenland a particularly popular tourist destination. In order to create a counterpart to the Martiniloben in the fall, the "Aufblühen" project was launched for the first time last year. "The response was overwhelming and showed enormous potential, especially in terms of added value for tourism," explains Dietmar Salmhofer, Managing Director of the South Burgenland Tourist Board.
There is plenty of room for improvement in Southern Burgenland in spring
Spring was chosen because it is a time when there is still a lot of room for improvement in terms of tourism. From March to June, regional events such as the Wine Spring or the Garden Days serve as an attraction and motivation for visitors who want to experience the diversity and beauty of Southern Burgenland. For this year, 18 organizers and events have already joined the campaign - a doubling compared to last year. The project also covers the whole of Burgenland for the first time and attracts visitors with a varied range of events.
Solution to the "food problem"
The "Aufblühen" spring campaign also offers regional event organizers a unique marketing platform, according to Harald Popofsits from the South Burgenland Tourism Association. Targeted advertising in Austria's largest conurbations, such as Vienna, Graz and Linz, is both analog and digital. Martin Taucher from the Uhudlerland association also sees great opportunities in this. Southern Burgenland often has the reputation of having a "food problem". This means that tourists are often faced with closed restaurant doors. "Thanks to this initiative, we have now succeeded in offering a gastronomic experience in the region every day from mid-April to mid-May."
