Swiss woman (43) died in head-on collision
Dramatic scenes unfolded on Tuesday afternoon in the neighboring canton of St. Gallen. On the H16 bypass road in Wattwil, a 43-year-old car driver crashed head-on into an oncoming truck. All help came too late for the woman. She died at the scene of the accident.
When the two vehicles collided just before the Wattwil tunnel, the impact was so violent that the car flew into the meadow to the right of the road. The truck also left the road. It skidded across the oncoming lane and came to a halt on an embankment.
While the truck driver (28) survived the collision unharmed and remained uninjured, the rescue services were only able to determine that the 43-year-old Swiss woman, who lives in the canton of St. Gallen, had died.
The cause of the accident is unclear. Based on the current state of knowledge, the executive assumes that the car ran onto the lane half of the truck. The St. Gallen cantonal police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident under the direction of the public prosecutor's office. The forensics competence center of the St. Gallen cantonal police has been ordered to secure evidence.
In addition to several patrols and specialists from the St. Gallen cantonal police, the relevant fire department, the rescue service and a public prosecutor were also deployed
