Province and AMS: Working together for equality

The state of Carinthia and the AMS are fighting against discrimination and for equality for women.

Statistically speaking, Carinthian women in full-time jobs worked for free this year until February 18, the "Equal Pay Day". This corresponds to a difference of 13.3 percent compared to men; when it comes to pensions, the disparity is even worse at around 40 percent.

"Pensions are a reflection of working life," said Provincial Councillor Sara Schaar and AMS Managing Director Peter Wedenig, who jointly took stock on the occasion of International Women's Day on Friday, March 8. "The main factor for women's pension shortfall is their lower earned income." The situation is exacerbated by part-time work - they want to provide better advice to jobseekers.

New career paths for women
With a series of events, the state and the AMS want to raise awareness of the issue in the regions. "The 'Mobile for Equality' tour will provide important input for the further development of existing programs," emphasizes Schaar. "In this way, we encourage women to pursue career paths and training far removed from traditional, stereotypical paths," explains Wedenig. "This leads to higher and living incomes."

Femicides were also addressed by the Provincial Councillor: "The accumulation clearly shows that a national action plan for the protection against violence and a permanent crisis team in cooperation with the victim and violence protection institutions of the provinces are finally needed as soon as possible."
