Woman in Vienna abused by husband for a year

Shocking incidents are said to have taken place in an apartment in Vienna-Simmering in recent months: a man is said to have sexually abused his wife and beaten their eldest children (aged seven and nine). When the suspect also reached for a knife on Saturday, his 29-year-old wife filed a complaint with the police. 

It was Saturday lunchtime when the 29-year-old filed a complaint at a police station in Simmering. In the morning, the 34-year-old Romanian allegedly grabbed a knife and threatened her. The victim also stated that she had been beaten and threatened by her spouse several times over the past year.

In the course of further investigations, it emerged that there had also been sexual assaults against the 29-year-old and violence against the eldest children (the daughter was seven and the son nine years old). Officers were able to find the accused at the home address on Saturday - he was questioned immediately. He was also banned from entering and approaching the house and a temporary weapons ban was issued.

"The man partially confessed to the allegations," said the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate on Sunday. He was released by order of the public prosecutor's office.
