Authority inspects building
Workers’ accommodation becomes an asylum home in the town center
In Steinerkirchen an der Traun, the accommodation of workers from all over the world in the building at Kirchenplatz 1 did not suit some locals at all. Now the conversion of the building is causing even more resentment. Refugees are soon to move in. The mayor therefore invites you to an information evening.
The building at Kirchenplatz 1 in Steinerkirchen does not yet meet all the requirements for asylum accommodation. On Monday, the district building authority will take another look at the building following an initial inspection, including a number of complaints. "If everything fits this time, the first refugees could arrive soon," says Mayor Thomas Steinerberger from the ÖVP party, looking forward to the coming days.
Although the municipality has been informed of the plans to accommodate the refugees, it has little influence or say in the matter. The building is privately owned, with the company ORS Service GmbH and the state pulling the strings.
Info evening at secondary school
"It has been said that families will move in. There shouldn't be more than 15 refugees, and there will always be someone from ORS on site for the first month," says the head of the village, who has organized an information evening with representatives of the state and the operator of the asylum accommodation in the secondary school on Monday (start: 7 pm).
If we want integration to succeed, we need the commitment and helpfulness of local residents.
Thomas Steinerberger, Bürgermeister
This event was necessary because not everyone in the town is happy with the accommodation for people seeking protection. "We can't judge people who aren't here yet. There is no question that they have to abide by our laws and respect our values. If we want integration to succeed, we need the commitment and helpfulness of local residents," says Steinerberger.
