First appearance for Red Bull Salzburg’s new signing

A few hours after announcing his transfer to Salzburg, central defender Maximiliano Caufriez was on the pitch for the final training session for the Champions League on Tuesday. The "Krone" attended the training session of the runners-up in Taxham. 

Red Bull Salzburg presented a new central defender on Monday evening. Maximiliano Caufriez moved to the Salzach on loan from French second-division club Clermont Foot and signed until the end of June 2025. According to his club, the Salzburgers also secured an option to buy. The Belgian has been given the number two shirt and follows players such as Ignace Van der Brempt (currently on loan at Italian first division club Como) and Laszlo Bodnar.

The 27-year-old already made his first appearance on Tuesday. Caufriez was on the pitch at the Bulls' final training session ahead of the home game in the Champions League against Atlético Madrid (Wednesday, 9pm, Sky Sports Austria) at the training center in Taxham.

Like new attacking signing Karim Onisiwo, the Belgian is ineligible to play in Salzburg's final match in the league phase of the Premier League due to UEFA regulations. Caufriez could theoretically make his debut on Sunday (18:15) at LASK in the ÖFB Cup. The defender played his last competitive match for Valencia in the Spanish La Liga on October 27, 2024 in a 1-1 draw against Getafe. It was to be his only appearance for the "Blanquinegros", to whom he had also been loaned.  

Goalkeeper Alexander Schlager was also seen on the training pitch. As is well known, the Salzburg man will be in goal against Atletico. Coach Thomas Letsch had already made this clear before the game against Real Madrid last Wednesday. Left-back Daouda Guindo, goalscorer Karim Konate (both knee) and Maurits Kjaergaard (ankle) are missing through injury.
