The focus will be on the vines on January 11th when the Chamber of Agriculture invites you to the Winegrowers' Day in St. Andrä in Lavanttal. Viticulture President Horst Wild talks about a trend of the future.

Carinthian viticulture is known for its quality beyond the state's borders - but it is also a source of inspiration, as is the case with a new trend. "This is slow wine. It comes from Slow Food, which is also what it is drunk with - the initiative comes from Italy," explains Wild.

Slow Food is now cooked in 150 countries. "Carinthia was the first winegrowers' association in Austria to respond to this and drew up a manifesto back in 2022. There is now also a Slow Wine. The winegrowers guarantee to use 70 percent of the grapes from their own vineyards. No herbicides are used in the vineyards," says Wild.

"The aspect of sustainability is important. The use of our own yeast is recommended and the wines are given plenty of time to mature. They are characteristic of the regional and geological conditions," says the winemaker. "It's about further development. Slow Wine should be produced throughout Carinthia by 2025."
