Wild chase ends in a crash in Bregenz

Two German police patrols attempted to stop a car with an unregistered German license plate shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday on the German A96 freeway in the Sigmarszell area in order to check it. However, the police officers had not taken the car driver into account.

The man coldly disregarded the attempts to stop him, fled towards Austria at far too high a speed and was therefore pursued by the two patrols. At the Hörbranz border crossing, the fugitive drove onto the A14 and thus into Austrian territory, whereupon the Vorarlberg state control center was immediately notified of the pursuit by the Kempten operations center.

Austrian police patrols were then sent after the fleeing vehicle and also took up the pursuit. As a result, the fleeing vehicle drove through the Pfänder Tunnel and then left the A14 at the Wolfurt/Lauterach exit. The vehicle continued along the L 190 into the urban area of Bregenz, where it finally collided with the German police patrol on the Mehrerauerbrücke bridge and the driver was arrested by the Austrian officers.

A German police officer and the driver of the fleeing vehicle were slightly injured in the collision. A German police vehicle and the getaway car were damaged. The driver now faces several charges in both Austria and Germany.
