Climber had to be rescued from rock face

A serious climbing accident occurred in the "Grazer Bergland" in Mixnitz on Wednesday afternoon. The C17 rescue helicopter had to transport a 28-year-old man to Graz Accident Hospital (UKH).

A three-rope team was climbing the so-called "Red Chimney" on the "Rampenwulst". During this climbing tour in the upper fifth degree of difficulty, the 28-year-old "lead climber" fell through his own fault at around 2.30 pm. His two climbing companions were able to hold the "lead climber's fall" and administer first aid.

The crew of the rescue helicopter was able to rescue the man from the rock face using a rope and transport him to hospital with serious injuries. The Hochsteiermark Alpine Police conducted the investigation. There is no evidence of third-party negligence.
