Duo jumped out of their vehicle
Wild campers almost plunged into the Ötztaler Ache
It could have ended much worse: Two German wild campers almost ended up in the Ötztaler Ache in their camper van in the Tyrolean Oberland on Friday evening. When the duo were already in the sleeping area, the vehicle suddenly started to roll.
The two Germans (aged 40 and 42) were traveling in their camper van in the Ötztal valley. After the 40-year-old driver had parked the vehicle in a parking lot in Längenfeld, they both went into the back of the vehicle to spend the night, according to the police.
While the 42-year-old immediately opened the sliding door and jumped out, the 40-year-old driver rushed to the front and tried to brake the vehicle.

It then happened at around 9 p.m.: the camper van suddenly started moving and rolled backwards! "While the 42-year-old immediately opened the sliding door and jumped out, the 40-year-old driver rushed forward and tried to brake the vehicle," a police spokesperson explained in response to a Krone inquiry.
Injured when jumping out of the vehicle
However, the driver was unable to stop the camper van. And so he also had to jump out of the vehicle to save himself. He sustained serious injuries in the process.
Camper van got stuck on the embankment
Meanwhile, the camper van rolled on towards the Ötztaler Ache. The vehicle almost plunged into the raging waters. Shortly before that, it got stuck on the embankment. "The alerted fire department then secured the vehicle. It was finally recovered by a towing company early on Saturday morning," said the police spokesperson.
