"Bares für Rares" is once again bringing old treasures to the man in new episodes - and to a real power woman in the upcoming editions.

What do an eco-balance, a whole lot of banter and a black leather bikini have in common? The show "Bares für Rares", smiles presenter Willi Gabalier. Of course, he mentions the latter with a bit of a wink, as not every object offered for sale, such as the aforementioned item of clothing, makes it onto the ServusTV antiques format "Bares für Rares". "A lot is cut out of my moderations because I often have to laugh. Such funny things happen," says the art historian. "When I stumble over cables or make a Freudian slip, for example," he chats from the sewing box, which usually remains closed to viewers in front of the screens - but was revealed to the "Krone" during a visit to the set in Vienna's 21st district.

And many a shrewd salesman has his own reasons for putting on his rarity: "Sometimes a gold ring is sold for a new hobby that requires a leather bikini," laughs Gabalier. Of course, this is the exception. Also almost an exception is a woman at the dealer's table. With Dr. Elisabeth "Lisa" Nüdling, the Austrian counterpart of the junk show has not only brought in the concentrated expertise of an art historian and art and jewelry dealer for new episodes, but also a real connoisseur of the show. After all, she has been dealing in many a rarity for years on the German version of "Bares für Rares" on ZDF - hosted by Horst Lichter. "I'm really happy to be here. It's a great atmosphere, they are wonderful colleagues. Time flies - unfortunately I'm only here for four days."

What can the German colleagues learn from the Austrians? "Definitely the humor," laughs Nüdling, who, as the only woman at the expert table, also encourages female dealers from Austria to take part in the show: "There's a bit of a shortage of women. So, dear ladies, take heart!" Viewers on both channels need have no fear that she will swap Lichter for Gabalier: "Willi is such a nice, lovable person, but Horst remains my number 1 for Germany, just like Willi in Austria," she jokes.

Nothing that weighs heavily on Gabalier's shoulders, he takes it in his stride with a wink Speaking of which, the former "Dancing Stars" and "Let's Dance" pro can't do without exercise. In his dressing room trolley, he sometimes "cracks his back" in an acrobatic and graceful manner, as the picture on the right shows. The team of around 40 people seems to enjoy the 12-day shooting blocks. They are also satisfied with the ratings: each first broadcast has a stable market share of around four percent. We'll leave it up to you to decide whether this is down to Gabalier's shoulder training - forgive the writer of these lines for joking - or a recipe for success. "Everyone finds themselves in a situation where they have to part with something, inherit something or have to clear out an old apartment," says Gabalier, explaining the secret of the format. "And because there's resale, you don't throw anything away here, you recycle it. From that point of view, everything we sell has a great eco-balance." And so it will be again from June 2, when old treasures can be seen on ServusTV in new episodes with female power like that of Nüdling.
