A passer-by called the police
Vienna: Man wanted to sell puppies in a fruit carton
A passer-by in Vienna-Ottakring was shocked on Saturday: the woman discovered a young man offering two puppies for sale in a fruit carton on Neulerchenfelder Straße. The police were alerted on suspicion of illegal puppy trafficking.
It was already after 7 p.m. when the woman noticed the young man with the puppies on the street. When she confronted him, he allegedly told her that the two dogs belonged to his father (55) and that they were for sale. The passer-by then called the police.
Brought to Austria illegally from Slovakia
Together with an official veterinarian, the alerted officers were able to determine that the two puppies had not been sufficiently vaccinated and had been brought to Austria from Slovakia illegally. "There was also a suspicion of illegal puppy trading", the Vienna police announced on Monday.
The two dogs were taken from the young man's father and brought to the animal shelter. The 55-year-old was subsequently reported to the police.
