Judo: Polleres wins Grand Slam in Antalya!
Judoka Michaela Polleres has won her second title at one of the top-class Grand Slam tournaments in Antalya!
The Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo defeated runner-up Giovanna Scoccimarro and Olympic bronze medalist Madina Taimazova, among others, in the 70 kg category on Saturday. In the final, the 26-year-old from Lower Austria defeated the young Portuguese Tais Pina with ippon to claim her second Grand Slam victory after Tashkent 2023.
"She was the clear number 1 today!"
"It's an indescribable feeling, of course also in view of the Olympics," said Polleres, who gained a lot of self-confidence for the upcoming European Championships in Zagreb. "The longer the day went on, the more confident Michaela became. She was the clear number 1 today," said ÖJV sports director Markus Moser.
Magdalena Krssakova finished 5th in the 63 kg category at the fifth of this year's nine Grand Slams. The Viennese made it to the bronze medal match, which she lost to two-time world runner-up Miku Takaichi (JPN). Lubjana Piovesana, who was victorious in Baku in February, was eliminated in her opening fight, as were several other ÖJV athletes.
