The operators of various restaurants and stores in the upmarket ski resort of Lech am Arlberg (Vorarlberg) are not very happy: a Swiss man had been throwing cash around. It eventually turned out that the bills were counterfeit.

A 33-year-old Swiss man put counterfeit money with a face value of several thousand euros into circulation in Lech am Arlberg. He spent three days in the upmarket ski resort in Vorarlberg at the end of March and paid his bills in cash.

Thousands of euros
However, an attentive employee of a nightclub had doubts about the authenticity of the money and informed the police. Subsequently, 59 counterfeit 50 euro notes and 15 counterfeit 100 euro notes were discovered.

According to the police, the notes were seized from the owners of various bars and businesses with which the 33-year-old had been in contact. The majority of these bills could be attributed to the 33-year-old, they said. He will be reported to the public prosecutor's office in Feldkirch.
