"Atomically clean"
Paris was the creative home of legendary fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, who lived there in a futuristic apartment with a view of the Louvre Museum.
The 260 m2 three-room oasis, complete with a spacious 50 m2 dressing room, is now up for auction. Whoever wins the bid - the starting bid is 5.3 million euros - will also be buying plenty of amusing anecdotes for evening soirees.
"Atomically clean"
Lagerfeld's muse Baptiste Giabicon revealed in his memoirs that the great designer lived in the apartment "like in a science fiction movie". Everything was "atomically clean".
Lagerfeld only kept a few bottles of Pepsi Max in the fridge in the kitchen. To avoid food odors in the apartment, he would have had his chauffeur drive him to an extra apartment nearby to eat there.
Complete remodeling
Lagerfeld had the apartment, which originally had eight rooms, remodeled in a modern style, with concrete floors and sandblasted glass walls.
Stucco work was ripped out so that nothing cast a shadow. The main room, an impressive 120 square meters in size, houses an extensive collection of books.
Spectacular view
Lagerfeld lived in the apartment for around a decade until his death in February 2019.
It is located in a building with a striking blue door on the Quai Voltaire in the historic heart of Paris and offers a spectacular view of the Seine and the Louvre.
The auction will take place on March 26 at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with potential buyers also able to bid online or by telephone.
Icon of the fashion world
Karl Lagerfeld, who died in 2019 at the age of 85, was an icon of the fashion world. His legacy is closely linked to brands such as Chanel and his own brand.
His influence and passion for design and aesthetics will continue to be remembered.
