Attersee: Is the old villa a listed building?
Following the sale of the Chandlerhaus in Steinbach am Attersee, there has been an exciting development: according to an official list, the historic building is a listed building. So will the demolition and new construction of up to eight residential units not happen after all?
The plans of the master builder Norbert Hartl are causing a stir on the eastern shore of Lake Attersee: as reported, the Methodist Church has sold the Chandlerhaus in Steinbach am Attersee to the owner of a construction company and real estate developer - including the lakeside property and agricultural land.
The plan is to demolish the building and build six to eight new apartments - provided that the building owner does not run afoul of the monument protection authorities. This is because a decree issued by the authorities in 2009 states that the building, which was erected at the beginning of the 20th century, is a listed building.
Provincial councillor Stefan Kaineder (Greens) speaks of sad news in view of the change of ownership: "It shows that big business rules at the lakes. There are fears of a luxurious second home for millionaires that will stand empty most of the time. In other words, a project for well-heeled investors, as we have seen too often on Lake Attersee."
