Although inflation is falling, there is still no end in sight to inflation. The province of Burgenland is digging deep into its pockets to support households.

According to an initial estimate by Statistics Austria, inflation in Austria fell to 4.3 percent last February. For Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), however, this figure is no cause for celebration, "but still too high". After all, the cost of living is rising steadily.

Doskozil therefore announces that the fight against inflation will continue to be the focus: "I fear that the situation in the energy sector in particular will remain tense. Even if the heating season is coming to an end soon, the population needs financial relief."

24,000 applications already received
The province introduced the heating price cap at the beginning of 2023 to provide targeted support for low-income households in Burgenland. 17 million euros have been allocated so far and more than 24,000 applications have been received. Parallel to the heating price cap, Burgenland Energie would ensure the cheapest energy tariffs of all provincial energy suppliers, as the governor emphasizes. From April 1, there will also be another price reduction at the fixed price for electricity and gas. "This ensures planning security," adds the provincial governor. The heating price cap can be applied for online or at municipal offices.

At the same time, Doskozil refers to other initiatives by the state to combat inflation - such as the housing cost cap. The state is taking the lead here, while the federal government is hesitating. "If inflation remains this high, we will also consider extending the housing cost cap." At the same time, measures to strengthen the construction industry are to be presented next week.
