Stoned biker traveling at 200 km/h without a helmet

Scenes like something out of a movie took place on Monday evening on the Tauernautobahn in Carinthia near Spittal. A civilian patrol engaged in a chase with a wild motorcyclist.

At around 9 p.m., a motorcycle with a person on the pillion suddenly overtook a plainclothes patrol of the Spittal/Drau highway police near Mauthbrücken in the direction of Spittal at breakneck speed. "The vehicle had a Serbian license plate. The patrol immediately took up the chase," said the police. "The driver sped at over 200 km/h at times until the Spittal-Ost exit and continued almost unchecked on the B 100 towards Ferndorf."

"Driver fled over the fence"
When he turned into a local road there, the patrol was able to move their car across and block the road. "The motorcycle crashed into the police vehicle. The passenger, a 26-year-old Romanian woman, was stopped immediately, the driver fled over a fence and a stream," the police continued. "Only another police patrol was able to arrest him in an adjacent wooded area."

German had cannabis with him
Although the speeding driver, a 26-year-old German, was not wearing a helmet, he was carrying cannabis - some of which he had already consumed, as a clinical examination later revealed. "During her interrogation, the passenger stated that she had been in mortal fear due to the driving style and had shouted at the driver several times to stop the motorcycle so that she could get off," said the police. "Due to the high speed, the rider lost the helmet he had been wearing during the ride."

The motorcycle itself was also not registered for road traffic and the Serbian license plate was illegally affixed. The German will now be charged with serious speeding and endangering physical safety.
