Today is a big day for pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez: she is releasing her new studio album "This is meNow" and the accompanying music film "This is meNow: A Love Story" on Amazon Prime Video at the same time. In it, she traces her experiences with love - both good and bad: "I'm a hopeless romantic," she admits.
She has processed a lot in the film: "There were hard times that nobody knew about, that I kept to myself. Over time, I gained the self-confidence to show myself vulnerable and admit certain things to the world. This in turn gave me the strength to move on to the next phase of my life. As an artist and a person, this will be a new chapter where I feel freer to express myself in many different ways."
Working on the hour-long music film, in which the songs from her brand new album are embedded in a loosely connected story, was a great challenge in many ways: "At first it was difficult to make people understand exactly what I was up to. I grew up in the golden age of music videos and musicals, which my mother introduced me to. I drew a lot of inspiration from that for this project. I wanted each song to be treated as its own little movie." She received support from her husband Ben Affleck: "I said: 'I don't think I can do this'." But he encouraged me and said: "You can do it all. You write, you produce, you choreograph. Start showing that too."
The partly autobiographical film, which is loaded with metaphor and uses a bombastic visual language, was also able to attract many stars for guest appearances. In addition to Affleck as a newsreader, Jane Fonda, Trevor Noah, Post Malone, Sofia Vergara and Neil deGrasse Tyson are also included. They pass judgment on Lopez's love affairs as a richly costumed "zodiac council". Incidentally, the pop star herself is said to have invested 20 million dollars in this new project close to her heart...
