Suspected murderer caught on a train at the Brenner Pass

On Sunday, the immigration police caught a suspected murderer on an international train at the Brenner Pass, who was being searched for throughout Europe. The Pakistani (25) was arrested immediately. He is being held in custody in Innsbruck pending his possible extradition to France.

On Sunday, a patrol from the Brenner police station carried out so-called AGM checks (compensatory measures, note) on a passenger train. According to "Krone" information, it was a railjet coming from Italy. Shortly before 1 p.m., a 25-year-old man from Pakistan was also examined more closely.

During the check, the officers discovered that the man was the subject of an outstanding European arrest warrant on suspicion of murder in France. He is alleged to have stabbed a man to death together with other people in April 2023. The 25-year-old was arrested on the spot.

So-called surrender proceedings were initiated.

Man transferred to Innsbruck prison
"After consultation with the public prosecutor's office and the Federal Criminal Police Office, the 25-year-old Pakistani was transferred to Innsbruck prison," the police said. "A so-called handover procedure was initiated," explained StA spokesman Hansjörg Mayr on Monday morning in response to a question from "Krone". In the afternoon, it finally became known that a detention and legal protection judge had imposed the handover detention. It was said that a hearing on the handover to France would be held in two weeks' time.
