Allotment garden trial: only an isolated case for the city

The case of a student who wanted to buy grandma's allotment plot in Vienna is now drawing wide circles. This is how the city reacts.

Getting an allotment garden in Vienna requires a lot of patience. Demand is very high. Waiting times of 18 years or more are not uncommon. Then there are SPÖ parliamentarians who even own two allotment gardens and don't even have a guilty conscience about it.

Now the case of a student who took over the leasehold of an allotment garden in Donaustadt from her grandmother in 2020 has come to light. She has wanted to buy the green idyll since 2021, but the city is preventing her from doing so - we reported. The matter has already been brought before several courts and the Vienna Higher Regional Court ruled in favor of the young woman. The city has now lodged an appeal and is going all the way to the Supreme Court. So the allotment garden thriller continues.
