23,000 euros debited

“You have been selected” – Pinzgau woman ripped off

A woman from Pinzgau fell for a nasty trick. An unknown woman wrote to her saying that she had been selected by an association as a needy citizen. What started out seemingly harmless ended with a huge loss of money.

An unknown woman contacted a 48-year-old woman from Pinzgau via social media. She was paying out money to people in need that was left in banks by deceased people with no heirs, the fraudster lured the woman from Pinzgau and made her believe that she had been selected as being in need.

Video call with supposed bank
The 48-year-old then transferred 250 euros to a Luxembourg account and at the same time made a video call to a supposed bank manager. The woman apparently overlooked what happened afterwards for a very long time. For several months, large sums of money were debited from her account. This resulted in a loss of more than 23,000 euros in 24 transfers.

The police suspect that the fraudsters intercepted the bank details during the first transfer. The investigation is ongoing.
