For three models: Tesla cuts prices again

Tesla has done it again - albeit not to the same extent as usual: the US company has lowered its prices in the fight against weakening demand.

In Austria, for example, the price for a Model 3 with rear-wheel drive is 41,990 euros, down from 43,990 euros previously, as confirmed by a spokesperson. The Model S now costs at least 92,990 euros and the Model X 97,990 euros - which is also 2,000 euros less than before.

In China, the reduction amounted to around 2,000 dollars (1,877.41 euros), according to information on the car manufacturer's official website. On Friday, price reductions of a similar amount were announced in the USA. On Saturday, Tesla also lowered the price of its driver assistance software in the USA to 8,000 from the previous 12,000 dollars. In Austria, "full potential for autonomous driving" (so-called Enhanced Autopilot etc.) can be ordered for 7500 euros. Tesla was unable to say whether the price has changed when asked.

The market for electric cars is weakening worldwide. Tesla started the year with a significant drop in sales. It was the first time in almost four years that the company sold fewer vehicles than a year ago. The Chinese supplier BYD is hot on Tesla's heels. This is compounded by tougher competition from newcomers to the industry and the growing range of electric cars from established manufacturers such as VW.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is therefore facing skepticism from investors, especially as a more affordable model is still a long way off. Just over a week ago, Tesla announced that it would be cutting more than one in ten jobs worldwide.
