Trouble in Dornbirn

No topics, no city council meeting

Dornbirn Mayor Andrea Kaufmann (ÖVP) has once again canceled the city council meeting. Representatives of the other parties, in particular Juliane Alton from the Greens, are outraged.

The next city council meeting in Dornbirn town hall was actually due to take place next Thursday. However, it was canceled because there were no draft resolutions.

"Convening a meeting of this body without an agenda and without items to be decided upon does not seem to make much sense," said the city. According to municipal law, only one meeting would have to be held per quarter.

Some city representatives are anything but happy with the information that their topics can then be discussed at the meeting on May 23. 

 "It is an affront to the other parliamentary groups when ÖVP Mayor Andrea Kaufmann cancels a city council meeting without first seeking a discussion with the parliamentary group chairpersons of the other parties," explains city councillor Juliane Alton (Greens). "The deadline for submitting motions was still open. It can therefore be assumed that there would have been items on the agenda for discussion at the city council meeting." 

Like Alton, Markus Fäßler (SPÖ) fears that another "marathon meeting" will be held in May, during which important topics will ultimately be overlooked. "I would have liked to talk about affordable housing," says Markus Fäßler. It's an issue that is burning under people's nails. He would like to know how many properties "Vogewosi" has in Messestadt and whether and how much demand has been reported to the non-profit housing developer.
