Reconstruction has started
All new: Wiedner Hauptstraße is set to shine
More trees and more space for cyclists: the central artery in the 4th district is being redesigned. With some public transport restrictions
No stone will be left unturned on Wiedner Hauptstraße. The central traffic artery and lifeline in the 4th district is about to undergo a comprehensive transformation in the coming weeks and months. As part of the major track construction offensive by Wiener Linien, a two-way cycle path is being built at the same time. But there will also be more greenery along 1.2 kilometers.
Following initial preparatory work at the beginning of the week, Transport Councillor Ulli Sima, Public Transport Councillor Peter Hanke, District Head Lea Halbwidl (all SPÖ), Councillor Angelika Pipal-Leixner (Neos) and Wiener Linien boss Alexandra Reinagl gave the go-ahead for the extensive construction work on Friday. A total of more than 8.5 million euros will be invested here.
Enormous restrictions on public transport
There will be major restrictions for public transport users for six months. The streetcar lines 1, 62 and the Badner Bahn will not be able to run between Karlsplatz and Kliebergasse. Alternatives are the U1, U4, U6 and bus route 13A. The conversion should be completed by the beginning of November 2024.
