Little Easter miracle
Gut Aiderbichl saves foal from the slaughterhouse
The pregnant mare "Anna-Carina" almost ended up at the slaughterhouse. Now her foal was born at Gut Aiderbichl.
"That was really close. Mare Anna-Carina was already on her way to the slaughterhouse when we rescued her," says keeper Lisa from Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf near Salzburg. What nobody had expected at the time: Anna-Carina was pregnant! At the foreign slaughterhouse to which the mare was taken, nobody would probably have noticed. On the contrary: the more weight the animal to be slaughtered weighs, the more money there is for it. "We immediately noticed that Anna-Carina was noticeably fatter than the other six horses that we also rescued."
All the animals have now arrived safely at Gut Aiderbichl - and the little foal was born safe and sound on Palm Sunday: "Shortly after four in the morning. So it's not a Palm donkey," laughs keeper Lisa. This makes the foal a real Easter miracle at Gut Aiderbichl. The little mare's first traits can already be seen. "The little mare has inherited her dark mane from her mother, as well as her curiosity," jokes the animal keeper.
So that's all sorted. Now all that's missing is a name for the young animal! Gut Aiderbichl is counting on the help of Krone readers. Name suggestions for the little mare can be sent by email to salzburg@kronenzeitung.at from now until April 10. A selection will then be made.
