Pensioner fell nine meters into a well

On Tuesday afternoon, a pensioner was gardening in Kematen an der Krems. He sat down to rest on a well cover, which gave way and he fell nine meters. Helpers rescued the seriously injured man.

Five fire departments were called to Kematen an der Krems on Tuesday afternoon for a "deep person rescue". An elderly gentleman had sat down to rest on the cover of a well shaft when the cover suddenly broke and he fell around nine meters into the well.

Ladder reached into the well
First aiders immediately rushed to the scene and handed the pensioner a ladder into the well so that he could keep his head above water. The emergency services from the fire department, including the height rescue team, quickly arrived at the scene.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the rescue teams, the injured pensioner was safely rescued from the shaft using a winch and handed over to the emergency doctor for further treatment. The person was subsequently given initial treatment by the emergency doctor and taken to the Kepler Hospital in Linz with serious injuries.
