25 million euros
Engelhorn’s inheritance to be divided up at secret meeting
A citizens' council spends six weekends in a Salzburg city hotel discussing who should receive the 25 million euro fortune. The committee is to decide in July who will be supported.
Millionaire heiress Marlene Engelhorn (31) is getting serious. Some time ago, she announced that she would donate 25 million euros from her grandmother's inheritance to the general public. Now it's down to the nitty-gritty, the division of the fortune!
"Good advice" from average Austrians
Since 1 p.m. on Saturday and until Sunday evening, 50 randomly selected people have been meeting in a Salzburg hotel. They have the fate of the millions in their hands. Anyone aged 16 or over could be nominated for this so-called "Good Council". If the chosen person represented the average of the population. An agency then selected suitable people at random from the population register.
The committee alone decides who receives the millions from the inheritance. Meetings will be held in Salzburg on a total of six weekends until July. In the end, the council must come to a decision. Whether one or 100 associations and private individuals benefit from the Engelhorn legacy - anything is possible. The 50 participants in the "Good Council" will receive 1200 euros per weekend. 15 substitute candidates receive an expense allowance for standing by.
