Foreign Minister at 27, the world’s youngest head of government at 31, retirement from politics at 35. Now entrepreneur Sebastian Kurz is celebrating his 40th birthday. At his grandparents’ farm, he talks about his future, how he fondly looks back on his collaboration with the FPÖ—and about a recent meeting with Herbert Kickl.

Here, on his grandparents’ property, Sebastian Kurz spent his summer vacations and many weekends as a child. “During my political career, there was little time for that,” he says, “which is why I enjoy it all the more to see my children discovering the farm today. Konstantin is four and loves the same things I used to enjoy doing back then.” In the estate’s courtyard, the former chancellor’s mother has set a coffee table. Elisabeth Kurz has always stayed out of the public eye and doesn’t want to be in the photo. On August 27, her son’s 40th birthday will also be celebrated in this courtyard with just the closest family members.
