Unknown persons blew up ten letterboxes

Unknown persons used firecrackers to blow up several mailboxes in south-western Styria. The police are investigating damage to property.

Unknown perpetrators have been up to mischief in Deutschlandsberg and Leibnitz since December 20. They have been targeting the yellow collection and delivery letterboxes at the post office in particular. A total of ten of them - as of December 30 - were blown up with firecrackers. The yellow post boxes in Lebring, Leutschach, Oberhaag, Wies, Eibiswald and Bad Gams were hit.

The police have been informed and are investigating intensively: "It cannot be ruled out that there is a connection between the acts. We are investigating damage to property or, depending on the amount of damage, even serious damage to property," says Markus Lamb, press spokesman for the Styrian Provincial Police Directorate, in an interview with the "Krone" newspaper. There are no known eyewitnesses as yet. Which in no way means that the perpetrators can rest easy. Because: "The letterboxes are of course being examined for pyrotechnic residue, which may provide useful information."
